Silver Plated Copper Oxidized Manjushri Statue 8 Inch High|
This is a beautiful and unique copper oxidized and silver plated Manjushri statue. Standing at 8.4 inches, the silver plating has been done in the most intricate way. The combination of black, brown and silver color gives the statue a very distinct look.
Here Manjushri is depicted as a male Bodhisattva wielding a flaming sword in his right hand, representing the realization of transcendent wisdom which cuts down ignorance and duality. The scripture supported by the Padma (lotus) held in his left hand is a Prajnaparamita sutra, representing his attainment of ultimate realization from the blossoming of wisdom. Manjushri is here seated on a single padma(Lotus) as his asana(seat).
According to Swayambhu Purana, the Kathmandu Valley was once a lake. It is believed that Manjushri saw a lotus flower in the center of the lake and cut a gorge at Chovar to allow the lake to drain. The place where the lotus flower settled became Swayambhunath Stupa and the valley thus became habitable.
