This is a copper statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. The statue is fully gold plated. The statue has been hand carved with detailed floral motifs. The meticulous carving on the statue is the main highlight of this statue.

The back side of the statue is finely carved with flower all over and the base is carved with Tibetan endless knot and Chhepu.

Shakyamuni Buddha was born in Kapilvastu, Lumbini, Nepal some 2600 Years ago and performed many Buddha activities for 45 years in this sub-continent for the benefit of all the sentient beings. And this statue coming from his birthplace makes this statue a special one.

Here, Shakyamuni Budhha is in Bhumisparsha Mudra where the left hand rests in the lap with the palm facing upward. The right hand rests palm down on the right knee with the fingers pointing toward the earth. When the Buddha attained enlightenment, he reportedly used this gesture to summon the earth to bear witness to his victory over the seductive forces of illusion.

Some precautions you should keep in mind when cleaning gold statues.

  • In the case of gold painted on face, do not touch or not to clean with cold water. Gently wipe the dust with soft cotton.
  • Do not use scrubbing cloths that are highly abrasive. Similarly, avoid using steel wool or metal bristled brushes as they will leave scratches on the surface of the Statue.
  • Try avoiding touching gold statues too much. Oil from your hands can hasten the tarnishing process and reduce the life of your gold objects.
