Gampopa Sonam Rinchen (1079-1153) was a Tibetan Buddhist master, physician, and the founder of the Dagpo Kagyu tradition. He was a principal student of the renowned yogi Milarepa and brought together the Kadampa teachings on the Buddhist path with the Mahamudra meditation tradition. He also wrote The Jewel Ornament of Liberation, an influential text explaining the path to awakening. His teachings and students helped shape the development of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Guru Gampopa represents the importance of meditation, disciplined practice, compassion, and understanding Buddhist teachings through both study and experience. His life and teachings emphasize the connection between wisdom and compassionate conduct. His image serves as a reminder to remain dedicated to spiritual learning, develop a steady mind through meditation, and apply Buddhist principles in everyday life.
