Manjushree is revered as the Bodhisattva of Transcendent Wisdom (prajñā) in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He represents the awakened mind's ability to cut through ignorance, illusion, and attachment. In Nepalese tradition, he is also regarded as the founder of civilization-according to the Swayambhu Purana, he drained the ancient lake of the Kathmandu Valley by cutting the Chobhar gorge with his sword, making the land habitable.
Manjushree embodies wisdom and clarity. He is often depicted holding a flaming sword (khadga), symbolizing the power to cut through ignorance, and a scripture representing the perfection of wisdom. Worshipped by students, scholars, and practitioners, he is believed to enhance intellect, memory, and understanding. His presence inspires clear thinking, insight into the nature of reality, and progress on the path of knowledge and spiritual growth.
