Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, is the historical Buddha who founded Buddhism over 2,500 years ago. Siddhartha renounced his privileged life to seek answers to the universal truths of suffering and enlightenment.

After years of spiritual quest and deep meditation, Siddhartha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. He then became known as Shakyamuni Buddha, the "Sage of the Shakya Clan."

Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings, known as the Dharma, form the foundation of Buddhism. They revolve around the Four Noble Truths: the truth of suffering, the cause of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path leading to the cessation of suffering, known as the Noble Eightfold Path.

The Buddha's compassion and wisdom are celebrated through his teachings, which emphasize mindfulness, ethical conduct, and insight meditation as means to alleviate suffering and attain liberation from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth (samsara).

In Buddhist art, Shakyamuni Buddha is often depicted in various postures, such as seated in meditation or standing with one hand raised in the gesture of fearlessness. His serene countenance symbolizes inner peace and enlightenment.

Shakyamuni Buddha's profound teachings continue to inspire millions worldwide, transcending time and culture, and guiding seekers on the path toward awakening and liberation from suffering.
