Buddhist Prayer Beads
Buddhist Prayer Beads have a very special significance in Buddhism. Although prayer beads malas is used in many religions like Hinduism, Jainism, Christianity, the significance of prayer mala in Buddhism is of high importance.
A mala is a string of beads used to count repetitions in Buddhist practices--prostrations, recitations of mantras, names of the Buddha. Sometimes it is simply a reminder to be aware. The traditional number of beads in a mala is 108. The beads themselves, made from variety of seeds, wood, and semiprecious stones, are worn around the neck or wrapped in coils around the wrist.
Buddhist prayer beads are used while meditating to focus our mind and bring the best in us from within. Generally the beads are of 27, 54 or 108. Centered by a guru bead, these Buddhist malas have been extensively used since ancient times and have gained more popularity in today's chaotic world.
