Himalayan Vibes Tours

Himalayan Vibes is the initiative of two young, social responsible entrepreneurs from Kathmandu, Naresh Shakya and Rajasudan Pradhan, who are enthusiatic travellers, too.

In 2006 we founded our social travel agency with our head office in Kathmandu, Nepal, and with partners throughout the Himalayas. Our network reaches out to Finland, France, Germany, Spain, UK and the USA.

Naresh is one of the two founder members of Himalayan Vibes. He was born and brought up in Kathmandu and is a true Kathmandu-man, who remembers his childhood days when from his home in the old city of Kathmandu to the rice-paddy fields in its outskirts it took only some minutes walk. Unimaginable today!

A holder of a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Nepal, he moved to Germany in his early twenties for further studying and has spent many years of his business life working there for several multi-national companies. However, the bindings with his homecountry remained tight and he promoted Nepal through the establishment of and the participation in several Nepal-German joint ventures.

Naresh is married to Petra and in 2006 they together with their little son Monish returned to Nepal. The three of them travel a lot and are always on the outlook for new destinations and for possibilities to link local development projects with tourism.

Rajasudan, the founder member of Himalayan Vibes, studied in the famous St. Xavier's School in Kathmandu for ten years, a missionary school opened by Jesuits from USA.

He owns and managed one of the oldest guest houses in town, located in the ancient part of Kathmandu city for around 10 years. A holder of Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree, he is currently doing Master's of Philosophy in business management.

Apart from this, he has started a banking carrier for some years. But with a confidence that he could do more than remaining employed in the banking sector, he joined his family business in the agriculture sector promoting organic plant food products to the farmers of Nepal, a very challenging job and a never ending process. He is committed to promote good agriculture practice (GAP) among the farmers of Nepal.

He is also involved in social work as board member of 'Community Members Interested' (COMMITTED Nepal). He is helping this organisation coordinating school improvement programs at Nepal's first girl's school called Kanaya Mandir School in Kathmandu.

Petra is married to Naresh and contributes to the program-development of Himalayan Vibes whenever she has got free time. Besides that she works full time as seconded advisor of a German Development Agency for a Nepalese Non Government Organization.

Petra first came to Nepal in 1996 as a student of South Asia Regional Studies. Initially she had intended to stay only for three months and then fell in love with Nepal and with Naresh. Since then she together with Naresh travelled many times to and within Nepal.

Outside work, she enjoys spending as much time as possible with little Monish, loves doing art and visiting art galleries, and explores the various cuisines of the Himalayas.

Apart from us, many friends and colleagues in Nepal and abroad share our dream of traveling + supporting local initiatives. Our international partners are our valued friends, who support our initiative by promoting Himalayan Vibes and our ideas of making contribution towards sustainable tourism practices in their respective home countries. They contribute in various ways to their capacity.
